The Opportunity

This hybrid role requires an individual to be in the office 3 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Phoenix, AZ Colorado Springs, CO, Chesapeake, VA or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

As a dedicated Subrogation Specialist – Injury Demander, within defined guidelines and framework, you will provide specialized Auto claims service in the recovery of payments made to USAA members by legally pursuing through arbitration a third party that caused an insurance loss to the insured. The Subrogation Specialist may also defend through arbitration claims by other insurance carriers against USAA

What you'll do:

• Conduct claims investigations for moderate to high complexity cases by analyzing the facts surrounding a loss to reach a recovery conclusion, including recording statements, securing public records and analyzing report findings.
• Apply intermediate knowledge of P&C insurance industry products, services, and processes to include P&C insurance policy contracts and coverages, common law, contract law, state statutes, evidence and damages.
• Evaluate the recovery potential for personal auto/property claims and pursue recovery of damages utilizing appropriate recovery avenues.
• Effectively negotiate settlements with contractors, adjusters or any insured representative.
• Proactively and aggressively pursue medical subrogation claims (MP/PIP/UMBI/UIMBI coverages) where recovery is allowed within the US per policy subject to state specific subrogation rules.
• Recognize and documents subrogation, SIU, and salvage opportunities, and refer accordingly.
• Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

• Completed Bachelor’s degree.
• 3+ years of Medical Subrogation experience or 3+ years of 1st party (MP/PIP) experience or 3+ years of Third Party/UM/UIM BI experience.
• Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days and designated number of attempts.
• Intermediate knowledge of common law, contract and negligence laws.
• Ability to confidently resolve issues and negotiate fair settlements.
• Strong written communication skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong desktop claims management with consistent high performing recovery results.

What sets you apart:

• 5+ years of Medical Subrogation experience, 1st Party (MP/PIP) and 3rd Party BI/UMBI/UIMBI Claims experience.
• Completed Master’s degree.
• Any of the following insurance designations: CPCU, SCLA, CSR.
• US military experience gained through military service or gained as a military spouse / domestic partner.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $54,550 - $92,060.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
