The role involves managing baggage system conditions through multiple platforms and applications while interfacing with various internal and external stakeholders in a fast-paced environment. This position requires the ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound operational decision-making, and maintain a high level of professionalism. The incumbent serves as the central point of contact for all BHS-related activities, ensuring effective communication with field teams and operational partners. The SBO must possess a thorough understanding of the baggage handling system layout and associated control functionalities to efficiently manage baggage flow, direct staff responses to operational events, and mitigate operational impacts.As a Specialist, Baggage Operations, you will:Proactively manage the Baggage Handling System (BHS) in real time using SCADA/HMI, reporting tools, dashboards, and forecasting systems to identify congestion, mechanical issues, and operational risks before they impact baggage operations and dispatch BSOs through radio communications, providing real-time guidance and support to resolve faults, failures, and operational disruptions.Actively control, configure, and optimize baggage-related assets to maintain efficient baggage flow and adapt to changing operational and mechanical conditions.Implement baggage-related SOPs and contingency plans in partnership with Baggage Management Operations to ensure uninterrupted baggage processing.Manage baggage connection processes and complete inbound/outbound baggage asset allocations using operational systems, forecasting tools, and advanced planning methodologies.Monitor airline, ground handler, and contractor compliance with baggage delivery SLAs, Service Level Standards (SLS), and related contractual requirements.Oversee third-party baggage operations, including manual encoding, inter-terminal transfers, oversize baggage handling, and other contracted services while reporting on performance and compliance.Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including AOC, airlines, ground handlers, CATSA, CBSA, US CBP, contractors, and GTAA departments to support baggage operations and issue resolution.Coordinate repairs, preventive maintenance, and project-related shutdowns for baggage systems (BHS, HBS, SSBD, and EBS), while analyzing operational reports and trends to identify corrective and preventative actions.Support operational administration through staff scheduling, daily work assignments, shift handovers, report creation and distribution, payroll administration, and the identification and reporting of system and process deficiencies.This unionized position is classified at the Band 7 level, with an hourly wage of $47.35, based on a 40 hour work week. As part of the recruitment process, you will be required to complete a test.This is the role for you, if you have:Four years’ experience in airline and/or airport related activities with preference to those with experience in terminal, apron, and baggage in multi-tasking and analyzing data in a fast-paced environment.Ability to obtain and maintain a D/A class AVOP permit.Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance.Knowledge and skills you bring, that set you up for success:Fluent English communication skills in both verbal and written have demonstrated leadership skills.Strong problem-solving skills.Experience working in a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment.Data and statistical analysis and report creation skills.Ability to interpret baggage-related data and critical metrics.Ability to conduct informative and efficient briefings and meetings with staff and external parties.Understanding of Toronto Pearson and airline operations with respect to security, baggage, and connection (CNX) processes.Ability to assign and delegate duties.Demonstrated planning and computer application skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.Well-versed in all baggage-related SOPs and contingencies (ITD, BIWIS, ITT, HBS, BHS, and government policies and programs) with the ability to implement them as required.Compliance with regulatory training (LMS), including Facilities Control Measures, safety training, and PPE requirements.Ability to multitask, work under time constraints, assess situations quickly, and formulate action plans within established SOPs.Ability to resolve conflicts between internal and external parties and escalate matters to management beyond first-level resolution efforts.Knowledge and understanding of baggage flow processes (BIWIS, ITD, ITT, IRROPs, etc.) and the ability to direct staff and external parties to ensure compliance with legislative requirements.Specialized knowledge of connection baggage processes and requirements.Knowledge and understanding of CBSA and U.S. CBP regulatory requirements and procedures related to baggage and understanding of baggage flow processes and regulatory protocols at Toronto Pearson Airport, including applicable legislative contingencies.The GTAA is committed to Employment Equity and maintaining a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive.
