Special Education Teacher - Elementary Grades

About the Role

Our client, a supportive and inclusive elementary school in Oakville, Ontario , is looking for a dedicated Special Education Teacher to work with students across various grade levels. This role is essential in providing individualized support and creating accessible learning experiences for students with diverse needs. We are seeking a compassionate and skilled educator who can collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and support staff to foster student success. This position requires a strong commitment to inclusive practices and in-person student engagement within the school setting.

Key Responsibilities Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students requiring special education support. Provide direct instruction and tailored interventions to meet the unique learning needs of students. Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to ensure effective inclusion and support within general education settings. Conduct assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed. Work with a multidisciplinary team, including educational assistants, speech therapists, and psychologists. Communicate regularly and effectively with parents regarding student progress, goals, and support strategies. Maintain accurate and confidential student records. Advocate for the needs of students with special education requirements within the school community. Promote a positive and supportive learning environment for all students. Requirements Bachelor of Education degree with a specialization in Special Education, or equivalent qualification. Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification, with a Special Education division. Previous experience working as a Special Education Teacher, preferably in elementary grades. In-depth knowledge of special education law, policies, and best practices in Ontario. Experience with developing and implementing IEPs and various intervention strategies. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to supporting students with diverse needs. Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
