<p>Position Title: Social Services Student Placement   </p><p>Placement Type: In Person </p><p>Location: 3333 Finch Ave East </p><p>Hours of Work: Weekdays 9am - 5pm, minimum 2 days a week </p><p>Students Needed: 1 </p><p>Reports to: Friendly Connection and Wellness Program Coordinator & Community Health Promotions Program Manager </p><p>Start date: September 7, 2026</p><p> </p><p><strong>Position Summary</strong> </p><p>Responsible for assisting with Friendly Connections, Security Check, Meals on Wheels, and Health Promotion Outreach Services, and providing support to clients and caregivers in-person, and by telephone in accessing services, and information as needed.   </p><p> </p><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong> </p><ul><li><strong>Assists in the Friendly Connections, Security Check, Meals on Wheels service delivery    </strong> </li><li>Works with the service teams to provide assessment, service delivery, and evaluation based on clients’ needs in a safe and timely manner.   </li><li>Completes documentation including dated notes, service unit reports in SPLC Intranet and Alayacare database as required.   </li><li>Reports clients’ concerns and issues, files incidence reports, and makes internal and external referrals as needed.  </li></ul><p> </p><ul><li><strong>Supports and assists with health promotion activities</strong> </li><li>Assists in the outreach and coordination of a wide range of health education services such as wellness, health promotion, and disease prevention.  </li><li>Assists in conducting informational, educational, and training seminars including government, community, and health services with clients<strong> </strong>and caregivers.  </li></ul><p> </p><ul><li><strong>Ensures clients, volunteers, and staff safety </strong> </li><li>Complies with the Agency’s “Client Safety”, “Risk Management” and “Health and Safety” policy and procedures and ensures the safety of clients, volunteers, and self. </li><li>Ensures privacy of information and maintains confidentiality of staff, volunteers, residents, and clients.  </li><li>Identifies and reports any safety concerns/issues to supervisor/ manager immediately.  </li><li>Taking appropriate steps/measures to resolve safety concerns/ issues raised. </li></ul><p> </p><ul><li><strong>Performs other support duties </strong> </li><li>Attends meetings, trainings and participates in SPLC’s activities including staff and volunteer events as required. </li><li>Develops good relationships with volunteers and encourages their active involvement in the Centre. </li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Skills & Qualifications</strong> </p><ul><li>Must be enrolled in a Social Service Worker degree, or certificate program with a recognized college or university. </li><li>Highly detail-oriented with a focus on quality and accuracy. </li><li>Strong organization skills and accurate filing and record-keeping. </li><li>Ability to multitask and prioritize. </li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills. </li><li>Good interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidentiality of information. </li><li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. </li><li>Highly action-oriented and results-oriented. </li><li>Ability to work both independently and as part of a multicultural team. </li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Working Conditions:</strong> </p><ul><li>Sitting in front of the computer terminal for long periods of time </li><li>May have frequent work interruptions  </li></ul><p>  </p><p><strong>Orientation & Training</strong> </p><ul><li>Volunteer Services will provide an orientation covering organizational policies and procedures, including COVID-19 safety measures. </li><li>Completion of IPAC Mandatory Training is required for all onsite positions. </li><li>Organizational training will be provided for all new volunteers. </li><li>Position-specific training and orientation will be conducted by the direct supervisor. </li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Supervision & Evaluation</strong> </p><ul><li>Ongoing supervision and support will be provided by the Friendly Connection and Wellness Program Coordinator & Community Health Promotions Program Manager. </li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Other Requirements</strong> </p><ul><li>Currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary program  </li><li>Vulnerable Service Sector Check screening is mandatory. </li><li>Must be <strong>18 years or older.</strong> </li></ul><p> </p><p>Senior Persons Living Connected is a diverse work environment.  We encourage applications from all persons, including persons with disabilities.
