Science Writer - Entry Level, Remote
Overview
We're looking for a Science Writer to join our communications team. You'll develop news and feature stories that highlight the impact of scientific research and education. Working with our multimedia team, you'll create engaging content across articles, videos, and infographics for both internal and external audiences.
You'll focus on physical, natural, and life sciences, as well as interdisciplinary research spanning engineering, psychology, and other fields. During busy periods, you may also contribute to general news coverage and support stories across other topic areas.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects at once. Above all, you must be an exceptional communicator with strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, plus the ability to build relationships with researchers, faculty, and campus partners. You'll develop and maintain a network of sources within the scientific community—a key aspect of this role.
You'll also identify the significance and broader relevance of research, even when implications aren't immediately obvious, and evaluate its strategic value for communications. Under guidance from a Managing Editor, you'll support team priorities and contribute to broader communications goals through a collaborative and solutions-focused approach.
You'll help conceptualize, write, and edit content for the homepage, social media channels, and key print, video, and digital projects. This is a deadline-driven role focused on shaping and reviewing communications materials to meet editorial standards and align with style guidelines. You may also advise other communicators and writers across campus, including editing and developing stories for publication.
