About the Role

Our client is seeking a passionate and organized School Librarian and Media Specialist to manage their library and resource center in Markham, Ontario . This vital role involves fostering a love of reading and learning, curating a diverse collection of physical and digital resources, and providing essential media literacy instruction to students. You will create a welcoming and functional learning commons that supports academic research, independent reading, and collaborative projects. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about library science, skilled in integrating technology into the learning environment, and dedicated to empowering students as lifelong learners and discerning information consumers.

Key Responsibilities Manage the day-to-day operations of the school library, including circulation, cataloging, and collection development. Curate and maintain a balanced collection of print and digital resources that meet the curriculum needs and diverse interests of students and staff. Provide instruction on information literacy, research skills, digital citizenship, and media evaluation to students across various grade levels. Assist students and staff in locating resources, conducting research, and utilizing library technologies. Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources and information literacy skills into classroom instruction. Organize and promote library programs, reading initiatives, and author visits to encourage engagement. Requirements Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent, with a focus on school librarianship. Previous experience working as a school librarian or in a related educational library setting. Knowledge of library management software, digital databases, and multimedia resources. Strong understanding of information literacy standards and curriculum integration. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
