Remote- Business Development- 1099 Commission only (Sign industry experience required)

This is an independent contractor (1099) commission-only opportunity for an experienced business development professional with deep expertise in electrical signage. BVG is looking for a self-directed hunter who can identify, develop, and close new electrical sign accounts on their own terms.

This role carries no base salary — compensation is 100% commission-based, offering uncapped earning potential tied directly to results. Contractors set their own schedule, may use their own tools and systems, and are free to work with other clients including competitors. BVG will provide limited lead support; the expectation is that the contractor is capable of self-generating the majority of their pipeline.

Compensation

  • 100% commission-based — no base salary or draw
  • Competitive commission structure with uncapped earning potential
  • Commission rate and payment terms will be detailed in the independent contractor agreement executed prior to engagement

Scope of Work

  • Identify, pursue, and close net-new electrical sign accounts independently — including channel signs, monument signs, illuminated displays, LED signs, and related permitted electrical signage
  • Develop and manage your own prospect pipeline from initial outreach through signed contract
  • Leverage existing industry relationships and networks to generate new business opportunities
  • Navigate the municipal permitting process and guide clients through approvals, variances, and approval timelines
  • Collaborate with BVG’s internal design and production teams once a project is sold to ensure successful execution
  • Maintain accurate records of active prospects and closed deals; provide agreed-upon pipeline reporting to BVG’s VP of Sales
  • Represent BVG professionally in all client interactions for electrical sign projects

Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicate project scope, client expectations, and permitting requirements clearly to BVG’s internal teams upon contract execution
  • Engage with BVG’s VP of Sales as agreed for pipeline updates and strategic alignment
  • Maintain a professional, consultative presence with clients throughout the sales cycle

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 3+ years of outside sales or business development experience with a demonstrated focus on electrical signage required
  • Proven track record of self-generated new account acquisition in the sign industry
  • Deep knowledge of electrical sign construction, components, materials, and installation requirements
  • Experience navigating municipal permitting processes for electrical and illuminated signage required
  • Established network of contacts in the electrical sign, construction, or development space strongly preferred
  • Prior experience with FASTSIGNS or a comparable national sign franchise considered a strong advantage
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal oversight — this role requires a true self-starter

Skills:

  • Sales Drive: Self-motivated hunter comfortable with cold outreach, long sales cycles, and working without a base salary
  • Electrical Sign Expertise: Deep product knowledge of electrical signage — channel letters, monument signs, LED, and permitted installations
  • Permitting Knowledge: Ability to guide clients through municipal permitting, variance procedures, and approval timelines
  • Relationship Building: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate trust at the decision-maker level
  • Independence: Proven ability to manage your own pipeline, schedule, and business development activity without day-to-day direction
  • Communication: Clear written and verbal communicator; comfortable with cold calling and executive-level engagement

Contractor Terms

  • This is an independent contractor engagement. The contractor is solely responsible for their own taxes, insurance, equipment, and business expenses
  • No employee benefits are provided including health insurance, PTO, or retirement contributions
  • BVG will issue a 1099-NEC at year end for all commissions paid
  • The contractor may work for other clients, including competitors, simultaneously
  • The contractor sets their own hours and work location; no in-office requirement
  • Full terms of engagement will be documented in an independent contractor agreement prior to commencement

Working Conditions

  • Fully flexible schedule — contractors set their own hours and work location
  • Significant local travel required to prospect and client locations; valid driver’s license required
  • Occasional coordination with BVG’s Nashville production team as needed post-sale
