Registered Practical Nurse (Post Discharge Treatment Clinic)

OVERVIEW

Registered Practical Nurses possess a defined body of knowledge, clinical skills, and procedural skills and professional attitudes, which are directed to effective patient and family-centered care.

RPNs apply these competencies to collect and interpret information, make appropriate nursing clinical decisions, and carry out therapeutic nursing interventions. In collaboration with the Registered Nurse, RPNs apply these competencies within the boundaries of their clinical knowledge, skill and judgment,personal expertise, the healthcare setting and the patient’s preferences. The role is guided by codes of ethics and a commitment to clinical competence, their care is characterized by up-to-date, resource-efficient clinical practice as well as with effective communication in partnership with patients and families and other health care providers.

EDUCATION

  • Registered Practical Nurse with current Certificate of Competence issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current BLS mandatory.
  • Completion of ACLS preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two (2) years of recent Acute Surgical and/or Medical experience such as ER/ICU/Recovery nursing experience in the last 5 years required.
  • Previous experience in a Medical Triage Clinic and/or ER an asset.
  • Previous experience in clinic settingrequired.
  • Telus PS Suite experience an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to interview skillsin person and/or virtually to obtain patient health assessment skills (required).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of surgical /medical procedures required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Adult learning principles required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with IV / Blood Procurement, , Wound care management required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Demonstrated competence and willingnessto work at the full scope of practice (as outlined by CNO).
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and have superior organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a highly skilled interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in unit quality initiatives and measurements.
  • Good work and attendance record required.
  • Staff is accountable to units team agreement.
  • Position is required to rotate to other Surgical/Medicine clinics.
  • Work involves lifting, considerable walking and/or sitting, standing, bending, pushing And pulling of equipment.
