The nurse provides direct, holistic nursing care to hospice residents, including assessment, care planning, medication administration, symptom management, and monitoring changes in condition. Day-to-day responsibilities include collaborating with physicians and the interdisciplinary team, documenting care accurately, and supporting residents and families through education, advocacy, and emotional support. The role involves participating in care conferences, following hospice and regulatory standards, maintaining infection control and safety practices, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. The nurse may also mentor students or new staff, assist with admission and discharge procedures, and help ensure a calm, respectful care environment.<br><strong>Qualifications<br></strong> <ul><li>Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with the provincial regulatory body, preferably with hospice, palliative, or acute care experience.</li><li>Demonstrated clinical skills in assessment, care planning, medication administration, pain and symptom management, and end-of-life care.</li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to support residents, families, and colleagues with empathy, clarity, and professionalism.</li><li>Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team, exercise sound clinical judgment, and respond calmly to changing resident needs.</li><li>Commitment to person-centered care, respect for diverse backgrounds and beliefs, and adherence to confidentiality and ethical standards.</li><li>Proficiency in electronic health records and basic computer skills for documentation and communication.</li><li>Availability to work full-time shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required by hospice scheduling.</li><li>CPR/BLS certification and additional hospice or palliative care education or certification considered an asset.</li></ul>
