Forget the stereotype of shelving books—a career in Libraries, Archives, and Information Management is a powerful, overlooked pathway that bridges business, technology, and human rights by safeguarding data integrity and corporate accountability.

Indigenous Pathways is a paid, full-time, 9-month learning and development opportunity designed to support First Nations, Inuit, or Métis individuals in honing their professional skills at CBC. The program provides training within an all-Indigenous cohort, personalized career development, and hands-on work experience. No prior media production education or job experience is required to apply. The current program runs from October 2026 through June 2027.

One candidate will be selected to work with each of this year’s host teams. The position is based in Toronto with CBC’s Library and Archives team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with an interest in technology, research and information management. It is a great opportunity to advance Indigenous Knowledge, including indigenizing metadata and research, supporting Indigenous data sovereignty, information services, and archiving.

This is a full-time role utilizing a hybrid work model, allowing for both home and in-office collaboration as required. Please note that relocation costs are not covered.

This role is for you if you:

  • Are First Nations, Inuit, or Métis.
  • Have a deep interest in digital and video storytelling.
  • Are passionate about music, arts, and culture within your community or beyond.
  • Are eager to gain practical, hands-on experience at CBC.
  • Curiosity about technology, and are interested in developing technical skills in the area of media archives and Indigenous multimedia content.
  • Are a critical thinker who demonstrates strong ethics and integrity.
  • Are a collaborative communicator and team player.
In this program, participants will:
  • Develop essential skills and tools for a career in media, libraries and archives.
  • Build meaningful relationships with mentors, trainers, peers, and Indigenous colleagues.
  • Gain valuable professional experience.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • Skills or affinity for research
  • Some knowledge on the importance of metadata and interest in Indigenizing metadata and research
  • An interest in (or willingness to learn) how we can use AI or technology to support access and retrieval of archival content
How to Apply Ready to start your journey? Please submit your resume along with a cover letter that tells us a bit about yourself.

In your cover letter, please answer:

  • Why do you want to be part of the Indigenous Pathways program?
  • Why are you interested in working in the media?
  • What hobbies, volunteer work, or cultural activities are you passionate about?
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing. We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:

  • A mandatory Criminal record check.
  • Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
