About AI Training Work
AI training is the human side of building modern artificial intelligence. Writers and reviewers prepare examples that help conversational models understand language, produce natural responses, and communicate effectively across cultures.
- Shape how AI systems respond to real-world prompts
- Use writing, editing, and cultural awareness to improve model quality
- Work remotely with flexible hours around your existing schedule
The Role
OpenTrain AI is seeking a skilled Mandarin Chinese Creative Writer for a remote contract role focused on large language model training. You will craft authentic, culturally relevant responses from prompts and refine AI-generated text so it is accurate, engaging, natural, and relatable.
The work requires a strong command of written Mandarin Chinese, including regional dialects, cultural contexts, varied writing styles, and excellent grammar. Your contributions will help improve AI conversational models and their usefulness in settings where Mandarin is essential.
This role pays $15 USD per hour. The expected commitment is less than 20 hours per week, with a minimum of 10 hours and a preferred commitment of 20 or more hours per week.
- Employment type: Part-time contractor
- Work arrangement: Remote and worldwide
- Pay: $15 USD per hour
- Experience level: Intermediate
- Data and task types: Prompt-response writing, question answering, text generation, and text summarization
What You’ll Do
You will generate and improve Mandarin Chinese content for AI chatbot and language-model training. Assignments may include creative writing, content creation, editing, proofreading, question answering, summarization, and other writing tasks in Mandarin Chinese.
- Write authentic responses to prompts and questions in Mandarin Chinese
- Create natural dialogue and engaging text across different styles
- Refine AI-generated responses for accuracy, quality, and cultural relevance
- Apply knowledge of Mandarin nuances, regional dialects, and cultural contexts
- Edit and proofread content meticulously before submission
- Follow English-language instructions and communicate effectively with the team
Requirements and Preferred Experience
Applicants should have a strong command of written Mandarin Chinese and the ability to produce precise, polished responses. More than five years of creative writing or Mandarin content-creation experience is preferred but not required.
Previous writing experience on AI or data-labeling platforms is highly preferred, particularly work that involved writing responses to prompts or questions. Experience rating or evaluating responses is less relevant to this role because the primary work involves writing. Experience using AI chatbot tools such as ChatGPT is an advantage but is not essential.
A published Mandarin Chinese writing portfolio, whether online or in print, is preferred but not required. Applicants without links may describe their previous work. The interview will also ask about your highest level of education and the length of your prior AI or LLM writing experience.
- Strong written Mandarin Chinese proficiency and excellent grammar
- Creative writing or content-creation experience in Mandarin preferred
- More than five years of relevant writing experience preferred, not required
- Meticulous editing and proofreading ability
- Basic English for instructions and team communication
- Prior AI or LLM writing experience preferred
- Mandarin Chinese writing portfolio preferred, not required
Mandarin Writing Assessment
At the end of the interview, you will complete a short assessment. Questions are provided in English and Mandarin Chinese, but your responses must be written in Mandarin Chinese. This assessment is important because it evaluates your ability to understand prompts and respond precisely in Mandarin Chinese.
- Describe a character: Use creative language to briefly describe a unique and vivid character, including at least two notable traits or characteristics.
- Draft a professional email: Write a short email to your supervisor requesting feedback on a quarterly financial report, focusing on data analysis and presentation style.
- Write a persuasive email: Write a concise email persuading an introverted friend to volunteer as a guest speaker at a local event. Highlight two benefits and address one potential concern.
