Java Software Engineer

<p><strong>Position: Bilingual Java Developer</strong></p><p><strong>Duration: 12 month assignment (contract)</strong></p><p><strong>Client Location: Toronto, ON - Hybrid 4 days per week</strong></p><p><strong>Engagement Model:</strong> Professional Services Engagement – B2B (Incorporated Entities Only)</p><p><br></p><p>Overview</p><p>Senior Software Engineers will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting mission-critical services within a Brazil-focused payments platform. This role will have a strong emphasis on API development, microservices, event-driven architecture, payment integrations, and scalable service implementation.</p><p>The engineer will collaborate closely with teams based in Brazil and work as a key contributor within a distributed global engineering organization.</p><p>Responsibilities</p><ul><li>Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable microservices and APIs.</li><li>Build integrations between core banking systems and external payment platforms and ecosystems.</li><li>Develop event-driven solutions using Kafka and asynchronous messaging patterns.</li><li>Design and implement RESTful APIs and service-to-service integrations.</li><li>Participate in technical design, architecture discussions, and solution refinement.</li><li>Ensure applications meet functional, performance, security, compliance, and reliability requirements.</li><li>Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code quality, and engineering best practices.</li><li>Troubleshoot production issues and support performance, reliability, and scalability improvements.</li><li>Help drive modernization and long-term sustainability of the Brazil payments platform.</li><li>Collaborate with cross-functional and geographically distributed engineering teams.</li></ul><p>Required Skills & Experience</p><ul><li>Strong hands-on experience with <strong>Java and Spring Boot</strong>.</li><li><strong>Portuguese language proficiency</strong>.</li><li>Proven experience designing and developing distributed systems and microservices.</li><li>Strong experience building <strong>REST APIs</strong> and integrating backend services.</li><li>Solid knowledge of <strong>Kafka</strong>, event-driven architecture, and asynchronous messaging.</li><li>Experience with MongoDB and/or <strong>relational databases</strong> such as Oracle or PostgreSQL.</li><li>Experience with Redis or other caching technologies.</li><li>Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, automated testing, and DevOps practices.</li><li>Experience working within Agile development environments.</li><li>Background supporting <strong>payment systems, financial platforms, or transaction-processing applications</strong>.</li><li>Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.</li><li>Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with distributed global teams.</li></ul><p>Desired Skills & Experience</p><ul><li>Experience working with Brazilian payment platforms and financial ecosystems.</li><li>Knowledge of <strong>PIX, TED, DDA, Receivables, Cash Management</strong>, or related banking products.</li><li>Experience with <strong>Matera</strong> platforms or payment-processing solutions.</li><li>Familiarity with Airflow or other workflow orchestration platforms.</li><li>Experience with <strong>OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker</strong>, and cloud-native technologies.</li><li>Experience with <strong>Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana</strong>, or comparable observability platforms.</li><li>Experience working within highly regulated financial services organizations.</li></ul><p><br></p><p>We thank all applicants for their interest in this opportunity.
