Intermediate CAD Technician (Highways & Roads)

We are seeking an experienced Intermediate CAD Technician to support the design and delivery of highways and roads projects. Working as part of a multidisciplinary technical team, you will produce accurate, high-quality drawings and supporting documentation for transport infrastructure schemes at various stages of development. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically capable individual to contribute to projects that improve connectivity, safety and the efficiency of the road network.

Your responsibilities will include preparing, updating and checking 2D and 3D highway design drawings using appropriate CAD software; developing general arrangement plans, setting-out drawings, cross-sections, schedules and construction details; and ensuring all outputs comply with relevant design standards, project specifications and quality procedures. You will work closely with engineers, project managers, surveyors and other technical specialists, incorporating design changes and resolving drawing-related issues. The role may also involve reviewing information from surveys and site investigations, assisting with quantity take-offs, maintaining drawing registers and document control, and supporting the preparation of tender and construction packages.

Applicants should have proven experience in a highways, roads or civil engineering design environment, with a sound understanding of technical drawing principles and the ability to interpret engineering information. Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential; experience with Civil 3D, OpenRoads or similar design and modelling software would be advantageous. You should be familiar with relevant highway design guidance, drawing conventions and health and safety requirements, and ideally hold, or be working towards, a relevant technical qualification. Strong attention to detail, good organisation and the ability to manage competing deadlines are important. You will also need clear communication skills, a collaborative approach and the confidence to work independently while seeking guidance when required.
