The Position:

The Human Resources & Business Coordinator is Stride's primary internal resource for human resources and is responsible for coordinating the organization's day-to-day HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee records, benefits, payroll, employee relations and HR policy administration. As a member of the Leadership Team reporting to the Executive Director, the Coordinator provides HR guidance and support to managers and employees and coordinates a range of business administration, financial administration, statistical reporting, and organizational support functions.

· Initiative and Independent Work – Manage day-to-day HR independently, identify emerging issues and bring forward appropriate recommendations.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Organizational Leadership

· Participate as a member of the Leadership Team; serve as Stride’s primary day-to-day HR resource; advise on emerging HR issues, workforce trends and organizational risks; support managers; and liaise with external professional resources as required.

Human Resources

· Coordinate recruitment and selection, support hiring managers, prepare hiring documentation, and provide orientation and onboarding.

· Maintain accurate employment records, personnel files, HRIS information, staff information and HR correspondence in accordance with privacy and record-retention requirements.

· Administer benefits, vacation and attendance records; coordinate leaves; and support accommodation and return-to-work processes.

· Provide HR guidance on workplace concerns, attendance, conflict, performance and policy interpretation; support performance management and complaint/investigation processes; and escalate complex or legally sensitive matters.

· Conduct retention and exit interviews, maintain retention and length-of-service information, identify themes, and coordinate HR processes related to employee departures.

· Support compliance with employment and occupational health and safety requirements; coordinate HR policy review and updates; and support occupational and psychological health and safety responsibilities.

· Prepare and maintain workforce reports and accurate HR data to support planning, budgeting, reporting and decision-making.

· Process payroll and maintain payroll information, timesheets, reports and backups; prepare ROEs and T4s; and maintain the QHRnet Self Service payroll portal.

Business, Financial and Administrative Support

· Support accounts payable, financial tracking, Employer Health Tax records, cash receipts and deposits, petty cash, and backup source deduction and cheque/EFT payment processes.

· Enter and maintain MIS statistical information and organizational data required for funder, statistical and operational reporting.

· Compile annual audit documentation, liaise with external auditors as appropriate, and provide general business and administrative support.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

· Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

· Minimum three years of progressively responsible human resources experience, including day-to-day HR functions.

· Experience with payroll and employee benefits administration; working knowledge of Ontario employment legislation and contemporary HR practices.

· Experience using HRIS, payroll and Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel.

· 2 years of experience in the non-profit sector. Community health, mental health/addictions, or social services experience is an asset.

· CHRP/CHRL designation, or progress toward an HR designation, is an asset but is not required.

· Experience with accounting software, financial administration, statistical reporting and/or audit support is an asset.

REQUIREMENTS

· Ability to work effectively within a hybrid environment, including regular in-person work at Stride's Milton office. Ability to travel occasionally within Halton and Peel regions.

· Valid driver’s licence, relevant insurance, and use of own reliable vehicle required.

· Must have, or be willing to obtain, a current Vulnerable Sector Check.

· Occasional flexibility in work hours may be required to respond to organizational needs.
