We provide diverse engineering consulting and geomatics services across a broad range of market sectors for municipal, provincial, general contractor, oil & gas, energy and other clients. Our offices are always bustling, and our field work is dispersed with small teams working in remote, urban, and rural areas. You’ll collaborate with McElhanney’s HSE team members and operational teams to deliver system-driven and people-centered solutions that drive continual improvement. Your core function is to enable and support our operations teams fulfil their role and HSE responsibilities as defined by our HSE Management System (HSEMS) and provide key insights that drive operational excellence. Join us! **Location:** You are located within daily commuting distance or are willing to relocate to Kamloops, Prince George, Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton, Terrace, or Fort. St. John. **Travel:** * You will be working from an office predominately; however, you will be required to travel to conduct periodic office and project site visits throughout the NIBC region as required. * Our projects are widely dispersed across the region, often not in close reach, and our field work duration varies significantly from project to project. Monthly travel requirements vary based on the types and availability of projects but typically range from 0-25%. This role is designated as a safety sensitive position. What You’ll Be Doing * Coach, support, and audit the effective implementation of McElhanney’s HSEMS across operations. * Work directly with a team of HSE professionals and operations to deliver our organization commitment, to provide and maintain a workplace where everyone goes home safe, every day. * Support McElhanney’s HSE Systems by contributing to key internal projects and completing work tasks related to the continuous improvement of our HSEMS. * Develop Safe Work Methods in collaboration with subject matter experts and support the continual improvement of all elements within McElhanney’s HSEMS. * Develop training and education content for employees. * Provide support, coaching, and feedback to supervisors in the investigation of incidents, determining root causes, and the recommendation of corrective actions. * Proactively identify non-compliance issues and general opportunities for improvement. Assist in the development of solutions to improve safety performance. * Provide insights from direct experience, data (e.g., dashboards and processes outcomes), and the frontline to management for decision making, learning, coaching, and continual improvement. * Complete McElhanney’s Subcontractor HSE Prequalification Process as required for projects and support the development of Project Specific Safety Plans. * Perform internal audits and provide recommendations and corrective actions to management. * Conduct periodic worksite inspections at our offices and field project worksites to help verify the effective implementation of McElhanney’s HSE Management System (HSEMS) and provide continuous improvement opportunities for workers and the division/branch. * Other tasks as assigned. What You’ll Bring * Minimum 5 years of experience in an OHS role; strong technical knowledge of OHS hazards, regulations, and best practices related to civil construction or other high-risk industries. * Experience supporting people and safe production in the field and PMs/managers in the office. * Attention to detail, and an ability to work well in a team environment. * Comfortable with AI (e.g. generative AI) and technology (e.g. using mobile applications and being proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). * Excellent organizational skills, communication skills, and strong technical writing skills. * Champion’s Spirit – To work independently with minimal supervision and to walk with your team through changes and ambiguous situations. **Bonus Points For:** * Diploma or certificate in OHS and/or CRSP or CRST designation, or being a candidate for either designation * Knowledge of HOP, SIF, Energy-Based Safety, and other modern approaches to safety. * Experience in the following is a strong asset: * Civil and/or pipeline construction. * Remote worksites and technical terrain. * A widely dispersed workforce of small crews or individuals. * A multi-disciplinary business supporting a combination of office and field work. * Experience developing HSE-related programs, standards, and practices. What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $100,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting.
