Host, The Weekender (English Services) (On-Site)

CBC North is looking for an experienced Host for The Weekender, our weekend morning radio program broadcasting to audiences in the Northwest Territories and Yukon. Reporting to the Managing Editor, the Host is responsible for finding, researching, preparing and presenting interviews, packaged items and weather as well as operating and directing for the program. You will join our team of current affairs producers and associate producers based in Yellowknife.

You’ll be working in a deadline-driven environment, while adhering to CBC's Journalistic Standards and Practices. You may also be asked to contribute to our other English-language radio programs: The Trailbreaker, Trail’s End, and Northwind.We are looking for a candidate with the following: Post secondary education in a relevant field or equivalent years of experience.

Minimum three years experience in daily broadcast production in News and Current Affairs.

Excellent on-air presentation skills.

Demonstrated ability to perform live, e.g., public speaking, and skill at ad-libbing.

Strong interviewing skills.

A critical thinker with strong editorial judgment.

Strong writing skills.

An understanding and awareness of issues and events particular to the Yukon and the Northwest Territories.

A positive attitude and an ability to contribute to a team environment.

Demonstrated ability to perform at a high level in a high pressure, tight deadline environment.
