Horticultural Research Scientist - Greenhouse Operations

About the Role

Our client is a leading institution dedicated to advancing horticultural science and sustainable growing practices. We are seeking a dedicated Horticultural Research Scientist to manage and conduct groundbreaking research within our state-of-the-art greenhouse facilities in Montreal, Quebec, CA . This role requires a deep understanding of plant physiology, crop management, and experimental design. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of greenhouse operations, from seed to harvest, focusing on areas such as crop improvement, pest and disease management, and innovative growing techniques. This is an on-site position, offering a hands-on opportunity to contribute directly to significant horticultural advancements. You will work closely with a team of scientists, technicians, and growers to achieve project objectives and disseminate research findings.

Key Responsibilities Design, implement, and manage horticultural research trials in controlled greenhouse environments. Oversee daily greenhouse operations, including climate control, irrigation, fertilization, and pest/disease monitoring. Conduct detailed plant growth and development studies, collecting and analyzing phenotypic and genotypic data. Develop and optimize propagation, cultivation, and harvesting techniques for various horticultural crops. Maintain accurate research records, experimental logs, and data management systems. Prepare research reports, scientific publications, and presentations for conferences and stakeholder meetings. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and operational protocols within the greenhouse. Supervise and train technical staff and interns working in the greenhouse facility. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve research goals and identify new research opportunities. Manage greenhouse budgets and inventory for supplies, equipment, and consumables. Requirements Ph.D. or Master's degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Botany, or a closely related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in horticultural research, with significant hands-on experience in greenhouse management. Strong knowledge of plant physiology, genetics, pathology, and entomology as applied to horticulture. Proficiency in experimental design, statistical analysis, and data interpretation using software like R or SAS. Experience with controlled environment agriculture (CEA) systems and technologies. Excellent record-keeping, technical writing, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple research projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Demonstrated leadership and team supervision capabilities. Must be able to work on-site in Montreal, Quebec, CA . Bilingual proficiency in English and French is a strong asset. Benefits
