Entry Copy Editor – 100% Remote (USA)
About the Role
Do you spot typos on restaurant menus? Are you passionate about crisp grammar, factual accuracy, and clear storytelling? We are looking for an ambitious, sharp-eyed Contract Copy Editor to join our expanding editorial team from anywhere in the United States.
This role is ideal for an early-career editor, recent graduate, or career-transitioning professional who is eager to master high-volume digital publishing. If you are self-motivated, take pride in flawless accuracy, and want to build a serious career in media and content production from the comfort of your home office, this is your place to thrive.
What You’ll Do
- Polish Daily Content: Proofread and line-edit high-volume digital articles, newsletters, and features for grammar, syntax, flow, and brand voice before publication.
- Catch Critical Errors: Act as the final line of defense against factual inaccuracies, spelling mistakes, formatting glitches, and broken links.
- Apply Style Guidelines: Ensure all written content strictly adheres to AP Style and internal company guidelines.
- Optimize for Search: Verify that headlines, subheads, and body copy follow foundational SEO best practices to maximize readership.
- Meet Tight Deadlines: Manage daily editorial queues efficiently in a fast-paced, virtual newsroom environment.
- Sharp Eye for Detail: Exceptional command of English grammar, mechanics, and spelling. You notice what others miss.
- AP Style Familiarity: A solid working knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style (or an eagerness and ability to master it quickly).
- Deadline-Driven Mindset: Able to prioritize tasks, work independently without a manager looking over your shoulder, and keep a cool head during busy publishing cycles.
- SEO Awareness: Understanding of basic search engine optimization principles (keywords, meta descriptions, scannable header structure).
- Virtual Team Spirit: Strong, proactive communication via Slack/email and receptiveness to editorial feedback from senior editors.
- Education & Background: A degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience via student publications, personal blogs, internships, or freelance editing).
