The City of Elliot Lake is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and results-driven Director of Public Works to oversee the essential services and infrastructure that support our residents every day. Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, this executive leadership role is responsible for the planning, operation, maintenance, and long-term sustainability of the City's Public Works portfolio, including: ✅ Water &

  • Wastewater Systems

✅ Roads &

  • Winter Maintenance

✅ Solid Waste Management

✅ Municipal Airport Operations

  • Infrastructure As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will provide expert advice to the CAO and Council, lead a team of approximately 60 unionized employees and supervisors, manage multi-million-dollar operating and capital budgets, and play a critical role in shaping the future of Elliot Lake's infrastructure and asset management strategy. What You'll Do Strategic Leadership: Provide overall direction for Public Works operations, ensuring efficient, safe, and sustainable service delivery.

Financial Stewardship: Lead capital planning and manage operating budgets aligned with long-term asset management priorities.

Regulatory Excellence: Ensure compliance with Provincial and Federal legislation, including water and wastewater regulations, AODA requirements, and Minimum Maintenance Standards.

Operational Leadership: Oversee a unionized workforce and leadership team, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Council &

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a trusted advisor to the CAO and Council through clear, data-driven reporting, presentations, and recommendations. What You'll Bring ✔ University degree in Engineering, Municipal Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

✔ Minimum five (5) years of progressive senior leadership experience in Public Works, municipal operations, or a related field, preferably within a unionized environment.

✔ Strong knowledge of municipal infrastructure, water and wastewater operations, roads maintenance, fleet management, solid waste operations, and regulatory compliance.

✔ Proven experience managing operating and capital budgets, infrastructure projects, and long-term asset management planning.

✔ Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to build strong teams, manage change, and drive operational excellence.

✔ Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with Council, staff, contractors, government agencies, and the public.

✔ Valid Ontario Class "G"

  • Driver's Licence and the ability to respond to after-hours operational emergencies.
