Canadian GST/HST Specialist Needed for Non-Resident Amazon Seller
We are a U.S.-based company selling physical products through Amazon.ca using FBA. We are registered for Canadian GST/HST as a non-resident business.
We are looking for an experienced Canadian CPA or indirect-tax specialist to review our GST/HST account and previous filings, identify any errors, and establish a reliable process for future returns.
We recently received a CRA letter requiring a C$5,000 non-resident security deposit. We also want assistance understanding and responding to that requirement.
Scope of Work
Review our GST/HST registration, effective date, reporting periods, and account history
Reconcile previously filed returns against Amazon.ca transaction and tax reports
Determine whether sales, refunds, GST/HST collected, and input tax credits were reported correctly
Separate taxes collected or remitted by Amazon from taxes that remain our responsibility
Review Amazon fees, advertising expenses, FBA charges, and other eligible input tax credits
Review import GST and customs documents to confirm which amounts may be claimed
Identify missing, duplicated, unsupported, or incorrectly reported amounts
Recommend and prepare necessary return adjustments
Determine whether standard amendments or CRA’s Voluntary Disclosures Program would be appropriate
Review CRA’s C$5,000 security demand and advise whether we qualify for an exception or reduction
Identify any potential QST, PST/RST, corporate income-tax, or importer-compliance obligations
Create a clear process or reconciliation template for preparing future GST/HST returns
Assist with future filings if the initial engagement is successful
Experience Required
The ideal candidate will have direct experience with:
Canadian GST/HST compliance
Non-resident businesses registered under the normal GST/HST system
Amazon.ca sellers and FBA transactions
Amazon settlement, transaction-tax, marketplace-tax, fee, and advertising reports
Input tax credits and import GST
CRA return adjustments and voluntary disclosures
Non-resident GST/HST security requirements
Canadian provincial sales taxes, including QST, BC PST, Saskatchewan PST, and Manitoba RST
A Canadian CPA designation is preferred. We will also consider an experienced GST/HST specialist with strong, verifiable non-resident e-commerce experience.
Initial Deliverables
We would like the first phase to include:
A review of our registration and GST/HST account
A reconciliation of all returns filed since registration
A written summary of errors, risks, and missed credits
Recommended corrections and an implementation plan
Guidance on the CRA security-deposit letter
A review of other Canadian tax or registration exposure
A repeatable process for future GST/HST filings
Please quote the account review separately from any return amendments, voluntary disclosure, or ongoing filing work.
How to Apply
Please answer the following questions:
Are you a Canadian CPA or GST/HST specialist?
How many non-resident Amazon.ca sellers have you advised?
Have you reconciled Amazon transaction reports to GST/HST returns?
Have you handled CRA non-resident security-deposit demands?
Do you have experience with import GST and input tax credits?
Can you assess QST and provincial sales-tax obligations?
Do you recommend a fixed fee or hourly engagement for the initial review?
What documents would you need, and what is your estimated timeline?
Please begin your proposal with “Canadian GST Review” so we know you have read the complete posting.
We are seeking someone who can independently analyze the underlying records and explain the findings clearly—not someone who will simply copy totals into a tax return. All financial and account information will be shared securely after the contractor is selected and an appropriate confidentiality agreement is in place.
