Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS ) builds Merchant partnerships, operates the global payments network, and advances bank relationships to expand acceptance, increase network usage, and unlock new opportunities for growth and innovation.

Responsibilities

Successful interns are proactive, collaborative, and eager to apply their education to real‑world business challenges. They demonstrate strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills; take ownership of their work; and build effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the organization. Internship opportunities at American Express may be aligned to different business units and teams based on business needs, project requirements, and individual strengths.

Day‑to‑day Responsibilities In Potential Internship Placements Could Include

Project Management Roles:

  • Contributing to the development of project proposals, identifying and executing on timely next steps, and communicating with various stakeholders to gain alignment.
  • Conducting data analysis, reporting, and research to support regulatory and governance initiatives, including tracking requirements, deliverables, and compliance activities .

Product Management Role

  • Supporting the growth and ongoing management of American Express product portfolios ( eg. Cards, Insurance), by advancing initiatives that strengthen portfolio performance and support long‑term business health.
  • Deep diving into business performance, customer insights, and market trends to identify opportunities, inform product strategy, and advance key strategic initiatives.

Marketing Role:

  • Supporting the development and management of marketing campaigns across channels, including social media, Amex mobile app , email, and other customer engagement platforms.
  • Conducting research on market trends, customer behavior, and the competitive landscape to inform strategic marketing decisions and identify opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program.
  • Bachelor’s degree candidates with an expected graduation date between June 2028 and December 20 30.
  • Areas of study e . g . , Business, Marketing, or related fields .
  • Microsoft Office skills with emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data using Microsoft Office tools, with the adaptability to learn new platforms and systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong work ethic , organizational skills and attention to detail with excellent follow‑up skills.
  • Demonstrated ability with project management, and prioritization skills in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Demonstrated communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • A proven ability to challenge the status quo and improve existing processes.
  • A focus on innovation and the desire to own a project from conception through implementation, and evaluation.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, and comfort working across various levels within an organization to drive results.
