Associate General Counsel, Product

About the role

At Shopify, we're not just building software — we're revolutionizing how the world does business. And behind every game-changing platform feature, every major enterprise deal, every innovative partnership, and every merchant success story is our incredible Legal Team, solving unprecedented challenges and paving new paths in the digital commerce landscape. THE TEAM & OPPORTUNITY The Product Legal Team counsels the business units responsible for developing and building Shopify’s products and services. We provide legal support on new products across different verticals. Our work is challenging, varied, and constantly evolving.

We're looking for a strategic, passionate, and product-forward senior product lawyer. You're energized by being embedded with product and engineering teams, getting into the details of how data actually flows, and turning that understanding into practical, business-propelling counsel.

You use AI tools reflexively. Not as a novelty, but as a baseline for how you work. Success here takes intellect, humility, and a sense of humor. You're comfortable being uncomfortable, connect easily with different kinds of people, earn trust quickly, and genuinely enjoy working as part of a team — handling complicated matters with empathy and professionalism. THE CULTURE We're collaborative, curious, and committed to making commerce better for everyone. You'll work alongside brilliant legal minds and passionate business leaders who value both intellectual rigor and creative problem-solving. We take our work seriously but never ourselves — expect fast-paced intensity balanced with genuine care for each other, strategic thinking mixed with practical execution, and the kind of environment where your ideas can reshape how we do business.
